Στο βίντεο που ακολουθεί βλέπουμε το βόρειο σέλας στον ουρανό του Komagfjord, στη Νορβηγία ( βόρειο άκρο Σκανδιναβίας), όπως το συνέλαβε ο φακός του Γάλλου αστροφωτογράφου Thierry Legault. Οι φωτογραφίες λήφθηκαν στις 14 και 15 Δεκεμβρίου 2012.

Αποχαιρετούμε το 2012 και καλωσορίζουμε το 2013 με αρχαϊκό μειδίαμα...

This roman statue is one of a set from one of the big gardens in Rome (afraid I didn't take a note of which gardens it was from). It's on the first floor of the Palazzo dei Conservatori in Rome. She is carved in the archaic style, with its characteristic enigmatic smile.

Etruscan temple decoration.The roofs of Etruscan temples were covered with flat and curving terracotta tiles. The lowermost curving tiles were closed off with a vertical relief plate, a so-called antefix. This specimen represents a woman's face. Her diadem, earrings and necklace are painted in pleasant colours. Judging from the subtle 'archaic smile' and the shape of the eyes, the antefix can be dated to the second half of the sixth century B.C.

AN ARCHAIC GREEK VOTIVE TERRA COTTA GODDESS. c. 5th century BC. The Korai style figure with long braided hair and wearing a polos on her head. 3 x 3 inches. Good example with good detail and remains of white pigment. Fine archaic smile!

AN ARCHAIC GODDESS, ca. 6th century BC. The terra cotta goddess wearing long robes and high polos, two long braids falling over her breasts, she sits on her throne with hands on her knees and bare feet emerging from undr the hem of her robes. 2.4 x 3.25 x 7 inches. A couple of flakes, otherwise in choice intact condition with marvelous detail especially in the face with its wonderful archaic smile.

Κεφαλή κούρου. Αρχαϊκή περίοδος, 6ος αι π.Χ.

Αντιπροσωπευτικό έργο της αρχαϊκής πλαστικής αποτελεί το κεφάλι μικρού κούρου, που το συνολικό του ύψος δεν ξεπερνούσε τα 0,40 μ. Το έργο διατηρείται σε θαυμάσια κατάσταση, μάλιστα, ανάμεσα στα μαλλιά σώζεται αμυδρά ελάχιστο από το κόκκινο χρώμα, που το διακοσμούσε. Το πρόσωπο είναι μάλλον πλατύ και λιπόσαρκο και οι λεπτομέρειές του αποδίδονται με λάξευση. Τα μάτια είναι στενά, λοξά και αμυγδαλωτά με βολβό που εξέχει, τα φρύδια ανεπαίσθητα και καλοσχεδιασμένα, η μύτη ελαφρά αποκεκρουμένη, ενώ στο στόμα με τα πολύ στενά χείλη διακρίνεται το αρχαϊκό μειδίαμα. Τα μαλλιά του μετώπου, τα αυτιά, και γενικά το πρόσθιο μέρος του κεφαλιού δηλώνονται με λεπτομέρειες και χαρακτηρίζονται από έντονο ρεαλισμό. Αντίθετα, η πλαστική διαμόρφωση του κρανίου και του οπίσθιου μέρους των μαλλιών του τραχήλου γίνεται με ενιαία και τελείως αδιακόσμητη και λεία επιφάνεια, γεγονός που δικαιολογείται μόνο αν υποτεθεί ότι ο κούρος ήταν κάπου στημένος και το πίσω μέρος του δεν ήταν ορατό.

Το μειδίαμα του Σπαρτιάτη

Η ταινία έχει ως θέμα τη γυναικεία απεικόνιση στην αρχαία ελληνική γλυπτική, είτε πρόκειται για θεές, είτε για κοινές θνητές. Η ματιά του θεατή ταυτίζεται με τη ματιά μιας ομάδας σπουδαστών που προσπαθούν να αποτυπώσουν ζωγραφίζοντας τα μυστικά και τις λεπτομέρειες της γυναικείας μορφής σε όλη τη διάρκεια της Ελληνικής Αρχαιότητας.

In the photography of Marlo Broekmans, the autobiographical approach and the human body are at the core of her work. This can be seen in the many publications and exhibitions she has created -initially together with Diana Blok and later on her own- since the early eighties.
