Ο René Maltête (1930-2000) ήταν Γάλλος φωτογράφος και ποιητής. Γεννήθηκε στις 8 Μαίου, 1930 στο Lamballe (Côtes d’Armor, Γαλλία).

Άρχισε να τραβά φωτογραφίες από τα 16 του.  Το 1951 πήγε στο Παρίσι για να γίνει βοηθός σκηνοθέτη και το 1952, αρχίζει να δουλεύει με τον Jacques Tati και Claude Barma. Το 1958 άρχισε να εργάζεται για το διάσημο πρακτορείο Rapho.  Το 1960, εξέδωσε το πρώτο του βιβλίο «Παρίσι des rues et des chansons», με κείμενα των Jacques Prévert, Boris Vian , Brassens, Charles Trenet, Pierre Mac Orlan. Θα ακολουθήσουν και άλλα βιβλία. 

Φωτογράφος, ποιητής, ευθυμογράφος, “πρώιμος” οικολόγος, ο René Maltête είχε το ταλέντο να συλλάβει αστείες καταστάσεις της καθημερινής ζωής. Αστεία και ποιήματά και φωτογραφίες του έχουν δημοσιευθεί σε πολλά περιοδικά, σε όλο τον κόσμο όπως “Stern”, “Life”, “Epoca”, και πολλές εκθέσεις και καρτ-ποστάλ συνέβαλαν στο να διαδώθει το έργο του René Maltête πέθανε στις 8 Νοεμβρίου 2000.

René Maltête (1930-2000) was a French photographer and poet. He was born on May 8, 1930 in Lamballe (Côtes d’Armor, France).

He began taking photographs at the age of 16. In 1951, he went to Paris to become an assistant director and in 1952, he began working with Jacques Tati and Claude Barma. In 1958, he began working for the famous Rapho agency. In 1960, he published his first book, “Paris des rues et des chansons”, with texts by Jacques Prévert, Boris Vian, Brassens, Charles Trenet, Pierre Mac Orlan. Other books would follow.

Photographer, poet, humorist, “early” ecologist, René Maltête had the talent to capture funny situations of everyday life. His jokes and poems and photographs have been published in many magazines, all over the world such as “Stern”, “Life”, “Epoca”, and many exhibitions and postcards have contributed to the dissemination of his work.  

In 1973 Maltête moved to Dreux, where he and friends organized “Art en Dreux”; seven years later he would also found a poetry festival there.

In 1979 and 1980 Maltête was invited to the Rencontres d’Arles. René Maltête died on November 8, 2000.

His photographs are mainly based on disharmony and surprise, humor is omnipresent, but what we mainly observe, beyond the image, is a philosophical dimension.
