Σύγκριση των μεγεθών, Δείμου και Φόβου όπως φαίνονται από την επιφάνεια του Άρη και του μεγέθους της Σελήνης όπως φαίνεται από τη Γη. This illustration provides a comparison for how big the moons of Mars appear to be, as seen from the surface of Mars, in relation to the size that Earth's moon appears to be when seen from the surface of Earth. Earth's moon actually has a diameter more than 100 times greater than the larger Martian moon, Phobos. Το διαστημικό ρόβερ Curiosity της NASA αυτή τη στιγμή κατευθύνεται προς το όρος Σαρπ. Το ταξίδι αυτό ξεκίνησε πριν από δυο μήνες περίπου και αναμένεται να διαρκέσει ένα χρόνο. Καθώς λοιπόν συνεχίζει την μοναχική του πορεία στην επιφάνεια του κόκκινου πλανήτη, τις νύχτες “σηκώνει το βλέμμα του” στον ουρανό και παρατηρεί τα φεγγάρια του Άρη.

Έτσι, την 1η Αυγούστου συνέλαβε μερικά μοναδικά στιγμιότυπα. Τον μεγαλύτερο δορυφόρο Φόβο (με διάμετρο 22.2 km – 27×21.6×18.8) να διέρχεται μπροστά από τον μικρότερο δορυφόρο Δείμο (με διάμετρο 12.6 km – 10×12×16).
