Ο άνθρωπος εξόντωσε τον Χόμπιτ της Ινδονησίας; Hobbits In Indonesia Died Out Long Ago - Were Modern Humans To Blame?

Homo floresiensis (skull pictured), were believed to have outlived the Neanderthals on their island paradise by surviving until just 12,000 years ago, but new excavations suggests they may have disappeared far earlier. The study indicates they died out 50,000 years ago, around the same time Homo sapiens may have arrived.

The hobbit, Homo floresiensis, lived on the island of Flores some 18,000 years ago, and researchers have more evidence (its relatively large brain) the diminutive creature was a unique human species.

Όπως οι Νεάντερταλ;

New excavations in Liang Bua cave (pictured) on Flores where the remains of the Hobbits were discovered have suggested the original excavations made mistakes when estimating their age. Instead they have found the fossils and stone tools they used date from between 190,000 years ago to 50,000 years ago. Analysis of the hobbit people remains was detailed in the journal Nature.

Archaeologists have conducted new excavations in parts of Liang Bua cave (pictured) not covered by the original dig. This has provided new information about the age of the fossils and stone tools found. The deposits being examined above were found to contain fossils and artefacts from our own species, Homo sapiens.

The Flores hobbit were far smaller than modern humans (skulls of a hobbit pictured left and Homo sapien pictured right), leading may anthropologists to claim they may have been simply suffering from a form of dwarfism, but recent studies have shown they were a separate species.
