Το Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Θεσσαλονίκης και η Νομισματική Συλλογή της Alpha Bank συνεργάζονται για ακόμη μία φορά και διοργανώνουν έκθεση με τίτλο «Η Ευρώπη της Ελλάδος. Αποικίες και νομίσματα από τη Συλλογή της Alpha Bank». The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki and the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection collaborate once again and organize the Exhibition entitled “The Europe of Greece: Colonies and coins from the Alpha Bank Collection”, at the Museum’s Temporary Exhibitions Gallery.

Βασικά θέματα της έκθεσης είναι ο ελληνικός αποικισμός, καθώς και η διάδοση και η χρήση του νομίσματος, του βασικού συναλλακτικού μέσου, στην Ευρώπη. Οι ελληνικές αποικίες, που ιδρύθηκαν κατά τον Β’ Αποικισμό στις σημερινές χώρες Ισπανία, Γαλλία, Ιταλία, Αλβανία, Ουκρανία, Ρουμανία και Βουλγαρία, διαμόρφωσαν τον πολιτισμό της Ευρώπης και διέδωσαν τη χρήση του νομίσματος, το οποίο στον κυρίως ελλαδικό χώρο χρησιμοποιούνταν ήδη από τις αρχές του 6ου αιώνα π.Χ. The Exhibition addresses the subject of Greek Colonisation, the dissemination and the use of coins which constitute the principal medium of transactions in Europe. The Greek colonies founded during the Second Colonisation, in modern Spain, France, Italy, Albania, Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria, shaped the culture of Europe and promoted the use of coins which, in Mainland Greece, had already been used since the beginning of the 6th century BC.

Στην έκθεση θα παρουσιαστούν 121 νομίσματα των ελληνικών αποικιών, εκ των οποίων 116 ανήκουν στη Συλλογή της Alpha Bank, 3 στο Νομισματικό Μουσείο Αθηνών και 2 σε Ιδιωτική Συλλογή. The Exhibition will showcase 121 coins from Greek colonies, of which 116 belong to the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, 3 to the Numismatic Museum of Athens and 2 to a Private Collection.

Στην αριστερή παραγναθίδα αναθηματική επιγραφή η οποία δηλώνει ότι το αντικείμενο είχε ανατεθεί στο ιερό του Διός της Ολυμπίας ως λάφυρο από τους Μεσσηνίους για τη νίκη τους επί των Μυλαίων (τέλη του 6ου αι. π. The votive inscription on the left cheek-plate informs us that the object was offered to the Sanctuary of Zeus in Olympia as loot from the Messenias for their victory against the Mylians (end of 6th century BC). Τα νομίσματα πλαισιώνονται από 61 μοναδικά αρχαία αντικείμενα, προϊόντα εργαστηρίων των ελληνικών αποικιών, για την καλύτερη κατανόηση της ιστορικής πορείας και της ανάπτυξης των αποικιών που παρουσιάζονται στην έκθεση. Τα αντικείμενα αυτά προέρχονται από το Εθνικό Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο, το Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Θεσσαλονίκης, τα Αρχαιολογικά Μουσεία Δελφών, Ολυμπίας, Ερέτριας και Ιωαννίνων, καθώς και από τη Γ’ Εφορεία Προϊστορικών και Κλασικών Αρχαιοτήτων (Αθήνα). 61 unique artifacts, mainly produced in workshops of Greek colonies, will accompany the coins, in order to facilitate the understanding of the historical course and development of the colonies presented in the Exhibition. These artifacts come from the National Archaeological Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the Archaeological Museums of Delphi, Olympia, Eretria, Ioannina, as well as from the 3rd Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities (Athens).

Η έκθεση θα περιλαμβάνει επίσης και αρχαία από τρία Μουσεία της Ιταλίας (Museo Archeologico Nazionale della Sibaritide, Museo Αrcheologico Νazionale della Siritide, Museo Archeologico di Giardini Naxos) και δύο της Ισπανίας (Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya, Barcelona-Empúries), χώρες όπου η αποικιακή δραστηριότητα των Ελλήνων υπήρξε μεγάλη. The Exhibition will also include ancient artifacts from three Museums of Italy (Museo Archeologico Nazionale della Sibaritide, Museo Archeologico Nazionale della Siritide, Museo Archeologico di Giardini Naxos) and two Museums of Spain (Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya, Barcelona-Empúries), where the colonizing activity of the Greeks was intensive.

Την έκθεση συνοδεύει κατάλογος-λεύκωμα στην ελληνική και αγγλική γλώσσα, με πλούσιο φωτογραφικό υλικό. The Exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue-album in Greek and in English.
