«Πετάξτε» πάνω από τα χάιλαντς του Άρη. Fly through the 'chaos canyon' on Mars

Εντυπωσιακό 3D animation επιτρέπει στον θεατή να ταξιδέψει στην «περιοχή χάος» του Κόκκινου Πλανήτη. The area has isolated mountains up to 2000 metres high scattered through it. Seen from orbit, they form a bizarre, chaotic pattern.

Οι επιστήμονες την έχουν ονομάσει «περιοχή χάος». Πρόκειται για τα χάιλαντς του Άρη, μια περιοχή κοντά στον Ισημερινό του Κόκκινου Πλανήτη στην οποία βρίσκονται δεκάδες (μπορεί και εκατοντάδες) λόφοι και όρη τα μεγαλύτερα εκ των οποίων έχουν ύψος δύο χιλιάδες μέτρα.

Hydraotes Chaos, a large basin, approximately the size of the German state of Baden-Württemberg, lies in the Martian highlands, near the equator.

Η περιοχή του χάους έχει μέγεθος περίπου 36 χιλιάδων τετραγωνικών χλμ.

Among the most interesting landforms on Mars are features referred to as ‘chaotic terrain’. Dozens or even hundreds of isolated mountains up to 2000 m high are scattered in these extensive regions. Seen from orbit, they form a bizarre, chaotic pattern. Such terrains are found over a large area to both the west and east of Valles Marineris, the largest canyon in the Solar System. Με δεδομένα από τον ευρωπαϊκό δορυφόρο Mars Express που εξερευνά τον Άρη ειδικοί του Γερμανικού Κέντρου Αεροδιαστήματος δημιούργησαν ένα 3D βίντεο που επιτρέπει στον θεατή να «πετάξει» πάνω από τα αρειανά χάιλαντς.
