Nasa tests out its new high definition Earth viewing system on Wednesday morning from the International Space Station. The four HD cameras are placed on the exterior of the space station with the purpose of streaming live video of Earth. The cameras are enclosed in temperature-specific housing and the harsh radiation of space is expected to teach engineers which cameras are the best to use on future missions. Photo credit: NASA

H ΝΑSA τοποθέτησε κάμερες υψηλής τεχνολογίας στον Διεθνή Διαστημικό Σταθμό που μεταδίδουν ζωντανά την εικόνα της Γης από το Διάστημα.

Οι κάμερες του πειράματος High Definition Earth Viewing (HDEV), που τέθηκαν σε λειτουργία στις 30 Απριλίου, περικλείονται σε ένα πεπιεσμένο και με ελεγχόμενη θερμοκρασία πλαίσιο.

Όταν ο ΔΔΣ περνά από τη σκοτεινή πλευρά της Γης οι εικόνες θα είναι προφανώς σκοτεινές και στις περιπτώσεις απώλειας επικοινωνίας με τον ISS ή αν το πείραμα δεν λειτουργεί, θα βλέπουμε γκρι χρώμα.
