H «Ελλάδα» μελετά το Βόρειο Σέλας, GREECE Mission Launching Into Aurora

Η NASA έδωσε στη δημοσιότητα φωτογραφίες από την εκτόξευση ενός ερευνητικού πυραύλου. Ο πύραυλος GREECE εκτοξεύτηκε την περασμένη Κυριακή σε μια περιοχή της Αλάσκας και έφερε πάνω του όργανα καταγραφής δεδομένων για το Βόρειο Σέλας. Τα φορτισμένα σωματίδια που προέρχονται από τον Ήλιο στροβιλίζονται δημιουργώντας ένα εντυπωσιακό θέαμα.

A NASA rocket launching straight into an aurora. And the feeling on the ground was one of relief. With luck, the mission will tell researchers more about the particles and electric fields that combine to produce one of nature’s most spectacular sights. The rocket is part of the Ground-to-Rocket Electrodynamics–Electron Correlative Experiment, or GREECE, mission. Οι ειδικοί θέλουν να αποκρυπτογραφήσουν τον μηχανισμό αυτών των στροβίλων. Το όνομα του πυραύλου δεν έχει φυσικά σχέση με τη χώρα μας αλλά είναι τα αρχικά Ground-to-Rocket Electrodynamics – Electron Correlative Experiment.
