Το λειτουργικό «χταπόδι»

Η έκταση των οκτώ μέγα-κέντρων που εντοπίζονται στη Βόρεια και στη Νότια Καρολίνα, στην Αϊόβα, στην Τζόρτζια, στην Οκλαχόμα, στο Όρεγκον, στη Φινλανδία και στο Βέλγιο, είναι τέτοια ώστε οι ειδικοί που εργάζονται εκεί να κινούνται στους διαδρόμους με ποδήλατα. Στην παρούσα φάση, η Google ετοιμάζεται να ρίξει τα τροφοδοτικά της «δίχτυα» στη Χιλή, στο Χονγκ Κονγκ, στη Σιγκαπούρη και στην Ταϊβάν.

«Πολύ λίγα άτομα έχουν μπει μέσα σε ένα κέντρο δεδομένων της Google και υπάρχει λόγος για αυτό: πρώτη προτεραιότητά μας είναι η ασφάλεια των προσωπικών δεδομένων των χρηστών και για αυτό λαμβάνουμε πολύ αυστηρά μέτρα απαγορεύοντας οποιαδήποτε είσοδο στα κτήριά μας. Μόνο ένας μικρός αριθμός εργαζομένων έχει πρόσβαση στον όροφο με τους servers» εξηγεί σε επίσημη ανακοίνωσή της η εταιρεία.

«Σήμερα για πρώτη φορά μπορείτε να ρίξετε μια ματιά στο τι υπάρχει στο εσωτερικό των κέντρων δεδομένων και να πραγματοποιήσετε μια εικονική περιοδεία. Μέσα από τον διαδικτυακό τόπο “Where the Internet lives” (http://www.google.com/about/datacenters/gallery/#/all)  οι επισκέπτες μπορούν να θαυμάσουν φωτογραφίες του φωτογράφου Κόνι Ζου και να δουν με διαφορετικό μάτι την τεχνολογία, το προσωπικό και τα κέντρα που κρατούν την Google “εν ζωή”» επισημαίνει η Google.
